U-Neek-In-Adelaide

This week I have the pleasure of sharing with you all a wonderful local business called:

U-Neek-In-Adelaide

We are super lucky here at Once Upon A Market as this wonderful business has been a regular stall-holder at our markets for quite some time and we love seeing their amazing products every month.

For those of you who don't know U-Neek-In-Adelaide let's take a look at who they are and what they do:

U-Neek-In-Adelaide makes fused glass pendants, rings, plates, bowls, candle holders and other assorted items, all with uniquely hand crafted pieces of fused glass or beaded items at prices you would expect to pay for cookie-cutter, mass produced items.  All of this is to ensure you are giving your loved one a piece that is as special as they are without paying the 'designer' price for them.

When we asked how the business started Leanne told us that "I noticed a pretty plate in a window of a shop one day, walked in to ask how much it was and the lady in there told me she could teach me to make things like that for myself.  From there I was hooked.  The shop is long gone now, but my passion for this craft is still as strong as ever"
We sure are glad that Leanne continued her amazing passion so that we can all enjoy her talented creations!

It seems that U-Neek-In-Adelaide doesn't just love creating wonderful pieces but also attending markets "I love, love, LOVE chatting to the people.  It's what makes the early starts and the exhausting pack downs all worth it.  The people that stop and say Hello.  I honestly don't mind if they don't buy, I just love to chat!"

There is plenty of chatting going on at Once Upon A Market and we all love to have the U-Neek-In-Adelaide stall there with us.

Material Pleasures by Jen

This week I have the wonderful privilege of sharing a wonderful business with you that creates items that I use almost every day!

Material Pleasures by Jen

Jenny has always been a full time working mum but now she says that she is "classed as an "OAR" - Old And Retired". Jenny has one child, a daughter who now lives in Perth, a husband and a couple of cats.  Material Pleasures by Jen started after Jenny was forced to give up her job after becoming quite ill. With the need to keep herself occupied Jenny learnt how to make Mesh Bags which were a bit different in the market scene.
Mesh Bag

About 2 and a half years ago Jenny took her bags to a market and started selling her bags which then led to her starting up her Facebook page which has slowly grown and developed into the great page it is today with a big customer base.

Material Pleasures by Jen sells mainly bags for ladies and little belles. You will find fabric bags as well as Jenny's famous Mesh bags which are made from quality outdoor  furniture mesh. This makes the bags strong and durable. Jen has been carting hers around everywhere for the last three years and it gets full to the brim and heavy but still holds its shape and looks great.

I must admit I own two of Jenny's bags and I also have 3 or 4 of her humbug bags which are the most handiest little purses I have ever used in my life. They are shaped like humbug lollies and can hold sooo much in them including keys, phone, cards, dummies etc......

You will also find some other items at Material Pleasures by Jen including needle cases, pencil rolls and book bags! The fabric choices Jenny chooses for her items are bright, cheerful and there is something for everyone.

When we asked Jenny what she loves about buying and making handmade she replied:

"I love to make and buy handmade because each piece is unique and different. Besides I like to spread the love around to those working at home who receive no hourly wage for the long hours they put into each piece and the majority of those WAHM do it not only to make a little extra money ot help support their families, but because it is a passion for them."

If you are looking for a handmade gift for a loved one or you are just like me and have a love for handbags make sure you pop over to Material Pleasures by Jen and browse through her wonderful items. Or even better you will find Jenny at Once Upon A Market selling her wares and joining in on the market fun so come on down and say hello :D
