Cake Expectations by Aimee

Today I am sharing with you a fantastically scrumdiddlyumptious business!!
Cake Expectations by Aimee

I first met Aimee and her goodies at the Little Monster's Market in October last year. I was extremely lucky to be Aimee's neighbour at the market and I just could not stop eating her malteser cookies!! they were so delicious and my fiance was a huge fan of her Rocky Road and I must say he is rather hard to impress!! :P This is why I am so excited to have Cake Expectations at our market on the 7th April!!

All the delicious treats and goodies at Cake Expectations are handmade by the lovely Aimee herself. Aimee is married to her fabulous husband Russ and together they have 2 gorgeous children who I am pretty sure would be delighted having a Mum that bakes goodies all day :D
Aimee has been baking since she can remember and nothing makes her more happier than seeing people loving the look and taste of her creations. Aimee creates so many goodies including Rocky Road, Fudge, Cookies, Birthday Cakes/Cupcakes & even wedding cakes!! WOW!!

Cake Expectations was first registered as a business back in November 2010. Aimee decided to start her business after receiving numerous requests for cakes and cookies from friends of friends of friends!! and who would blame them!! Aimee started up a facebook page 'Cake Expectations bt Aimee' and she is amazed at how much business she has received just from her page alone!!

So far Aimee has only participated in a couple of market stalls and she is very excited to be a part of 'Once Upon A Market' with us and we all get the amazing privilege to see her new Easter themed cookies and cupcakes!! Oh we are super lucky! and you know where I will be on the day :D

At our Easter market on April 7th Aimee will have:

standard cupcakes - Choc Mud, Carrot & Walnut with Cream Cheese Frosting, Lemon Curd as well as some for the kiddies, with an Easter theme.
There will be some delicious hand-decorated Easter Cookies (something different to chocolate as an Easter gift) as well as some decadent Rocky RoadMalteser Cookies for the adults (again, a great Easter gift for the chocaholic, that you will not find in the retail shops!)

The main part of Aimee's business is cakes and cupcakes. Aimee doesn't have a set price list, as every cake/cupcake that she creates is tailor made for the individual.

Prices depend on the type of cake, decoration & number of people it needs to feed. Aimee also makes cookies to match the theme of your party, be it a Birthday Party, Baby Shower, Wedding Bonbonnieres, the list goes on!
When I asked Aimee what she likes most about the Market Scene. Aimee said that she "loves the hustle & bustle of being part of a market, & meeting fellow stallholders with their hand-made creations. I love seeing people's faces when they see my unique cupcakes, and coming back to buy more once they've tasted them!!"

And I am sure that after our market you will be one of those customers who comes back wanting more!!

So remember Saturday 7th April, to come on down to Once Upon A Market and look for Aimee and her yummy goodies and try them for yourself!! and if you would like to get in contact with Aimee to make an enquire or order a birthday cake or other treats all details are below :D

Once Upon A Market Newsletter!!

The countdown is on!!

Only 24 days to go until our Easter Market!!

The word is spreading so fast about Once Upon A Market and I couldn't be happier! It is so amazing to have so many of you supporting the market. It is because of the support from stall-holders, customers, friends and family that Once Upon A Market is able to grow!! so thankyou.

Now lets get onto some news........

Advertising

I have been busy busy busy trying to get the word out and so far so good! I have been out to Littlehampton and Mount Barker and was able to distribute 600 flyers to local homes! This has already made a huge impact! Some flyers were placed in the main shopping centre community board and I will be heading down again this week to get some news of the market into school newsletters and child care centres.

I will also be putting an ad in the local newspaper's 'what's on' column which I believe will be a great help in getting people to come out for a visit. I will be doing this the week before the market!!

My lovely stall-holders have been absolutely great in giving out some flyers as well which has been ever so helpful!! and I can't forget some lovely markets around Adelaide who have been more than accomodating with spreading the word around as well as handing out flyers to some of their customers including Market Moo and Blackwood Craft Market. I believe all of us markets need to stick together and help each other out! I am honestly a big fan of sharing the love and there is certainly room for everyone :D

Activities

The activities for Once Upon A Market are starting to be formed!! I will be having a kids colouring table with 3 different easter pics to choose from and pencils, textas and crayons to colour with!! I am also trying to organise some crafty bits and pieces to entertain the kids even more but this is just a work in progress at the moment!

We have the lovely Fairytail FX face-painting who will be doing face-painting, henna tattoos and glitter tattoos!!! at great prices so exciting! and always popular with the customers!!

I am also on the look out for some small entertainment maybe an acoustic perfomer etc but this is not confirmed yet i'm just looking and it is another work in progress so if anybody knows of anybody who would like to perform at the market please let me know!

Welcome Packs

By now you should have all received your Welcome Packs which I created to assist you with stall set-up on the day and also some extra information on the market. I hope that you all found these packs to be helpful! I included a small bundle of flyers that you can all distribute to family and friends and your local areas. I'm really impressed with the flyers and they are certainly eye catching with their bright orange colour!!

Stall-holders

Once Upon A Market has been designed to be a market that can be enjoyed by the whole family which is why I try very hard to go through all the applications from stall-holders to provide a variety of different stalls. This is why you will find as you stroll Once Upon A Market that there are items suited for just about everyone with herbal wraps, jewellery, baby products, hair accessories, kids toys, photography, pet items and much much more!!

And remember that I am always on the lookout for different stalls so if you make or know someone who makes something different and unique get in touch with me via email!! I am especially on the lookout for boys and men items!!

Well that's it for news items this week! I will be back in touch with more updated news in the near future as we count down the days to the Once Upon A Market - Easter Market!!
Can't wait to see you all there!

YellowBird

Today I am proud to present another one of our talented stall-holders from our February 4th Market!

The lovely YellowBird!

Everything at YellowBird is made by the lovely Lynley Slater.
Lynley is married to the wonderful Russell and they have 3 beautiful children. Lynley has always loved sewing and spent much of her children's early years trying to find a pathway into design and like many of us jsut couldn't find enough hours in the day.

YellowBird Clutch Purse
But lucky for us, Lynley 'accidentally' started YellowBird many years later after her 22 year old daughter asked her to make a purse and that was it! Lynley spent twelve months of experimenting with different fabrics and materials in her sewing room and the YellowBird Cluth Purse evolved into what it is today!!

Venetian Hobo Bag
The name YellowBird, Lynley also got from her daughter. A name that her daughter links to herself and also a name that reminds Lynley of her. Lynley says of her  daughter "When I think of a small yellow bird I am reminded of her energy, vibrancy and excited chatter when she is happy or excited about something. The way she can see things through new fresh eyes seeing something from a whole new perspective, quite different from most others. She can also startle easily when surprised or confronted and becomes quite vulnerable at times. Like the young yellow bird, she dreams to fly and in time she will."

Well honestly what better way to name your business? And with a daughter like that for inspiration no wonder the lovely Lynley has so much talent!! especially when her daughter is just a quarter of her inspiration!!

Apart from Lynley Clutch Purses you will also see her other clever product not too far behind! Her gorgeous Venetian Hobo bags! I just can not decide which product I love more......

All of YellowBirds Clutch Purses and Hobo Bags are designed and handmade with recycled, reclaimed, vintage and designer fabrics. All are vegan-friendly as Lynley's daughter is vegan so Lynley tries to avoid wool but has started to work with recycled or vintage silk. Lynley says that she respects her daughters choices and tries to stay true to the YellowBird brand.

Another great discovery I made while getting to know Lynley is her love of buying handmade items!! Lynley knows how hard it is to compete in the handmade market against mass produced items and would rather know that when she buys something someone's heart and soul has gone into designing and making each product. And I also got to find out what Lynley's top 5 things to buy handmade are:

"1. I love hand printed fabrics and having tried it myself I know how hard it is to achieve that right look with no blurred lines!
2. I love handprinted T's, they are always so cool and individual.
3. Wooden beads and necklaces. They each have a uniqueness about them.
4. Handmade buttons I use for some of my Clutch Purses and Hobos, again they are unique in colour and marking and so earthy.
5. Clothing for my 3 year old again because I love going outside of the main stream!
There is so much more but I am only allowed to pick 5!!!!"
