June Newsletter!

Well things are getting super exciting here this month at Once Upon A Market headquarters! In the last few weeks we have had a major announcement as Once Upon A Market has decided to expand down south!

Everybody is extremely excited and my email has been filling up with interest for both venues! How exciting for not only me but also to those who wanted to come and shop at the market but lived to far away :D

Our Southern market will be held at the Reynella Neighbourhood Centre at 170 Old SOuth Road, Old Reynella.
Reynella Neighbourhood Centre

Everyone who knows me knows that I am not a big fan of HUGE markets so once again Reynella will be a relatively small and cosy market where we can have the community feel again and all get to know each other and our regular customers! Which is what having a market is all about!

Reynella Flyers
Although our two markets will be generally run in the exact same way I just couldn't resist having a few little differences just to give them their own identity and specialness :P
The Once Upon A Market facebook page will be used to run both markets like normal and you will find all the info for both markets there and on this blog!!

You will still see the Orange flyers making their way up north and the Orange theme will remain with Littlehampton but as the weeks go on you will see a new theme for Reynella which will be a new Purple colour (as above). This colour will be seen more and more down south.

The easiest way to explain how Once Upon A Market is run is that Once Upon A Market is now going to be held every month but each month will be in alternative venues eg. July will be at Reynella, August at Littlehampton, September at Reynella and so on!

The biggest reason for this expansion is that now we can have different range of stall holders and also a different range of customers at each market! This makes it even better for everyone involved with Once Upon A Market! with extra advertising opportunities!

Littlehampton Flyers
With only 3 and a half weeks to go until our first Reynella market things are getting incredibly busy here at headquarters! Tomorrow I will be going through applications and choosing our stall-holders!! Which is incredibly exciting as we have soooo many to choose room and such a huge variety!! Keep an eye out on the page this weekend to see who will be accepted.
But we can't forget about Littlehampton! where this all began! Our next Littlehampton market will be on August 4th and I will be announcing the August stall-holders on Saturday 16th June! and again I have a tough job ahead of me choosing stall-holders from my amazing list of talented people! eeek!

Last weekend we had a lovely day at our market but I will leave that for another day.........Keep an eye out for the next blog where I will share with you what happened on June 2nd!

Cuddly Bear Blankets

Our feature business today is absolutely perfect for this weather we have been in having in Adelaide recently.

Cuddly Bear Blankets is one of Once Upon A Market's regular stall-holders and I am so happy to be able to introduce this lovely business to you and the wonderful lady who created Cuddly Bear Blankets, Miss Clare Vaninetti.

Clare is a local hills girl who has been married for 4 years and is the mummy to two gorgeous children, Bella aged 2 and Jack aged 1.

Cuddly Bear Blankets was started in 2011 just after Clare's son Jack was born. Clare's Mum was an avid knitter and whilst visiting from the U.K to help with Jack, taught Clare how to knit.

This is how Clare started with her famous 'bobble blankets'.

Clare's 'bobble' blankets have been a huge hit! and are her main business. With the gorgeous colours and patterns they make a great accessory to any nursery and are super warm and 'cuddly' with their great soft texture.

I myself purchased my own 'Cuddly Bear Blanket' a few weeks ago. Clare created one just a bit bigger so that I could have my very own couch cuddle blanket :D

But blankets are not all you will find at Cuddly Bear Blankets! The range has now grown to sock bunnies, giraffes, elephants and more!!

Clare also enjoys shopping handmade just like the rest of us and her favourite things to buy from markets and online are:

~ hair clips/bands for her daughter
             ~ baby clothes
~ wooden toys for her son
             ~ room decorations (canvas's etc)
             ~ candles

If you would like to check out more of Cuddly Bear Blankets items or you would like to get in touch with Clare to place an order you can find her on Facebook at:

http://www.facebook.com/cuddlybearblankets

You can also email her at:
cuddlybearblankets@gmail.com

And don't forget to come down this Saturday 2nd June and you will find Clare at her Cuddly Bear Blankets stall......at Once Upon A Markets Winter Market......perfect timing to grab some snuggly blankets for your little one........or even a bigger one for yourself :P

Maple Jane Macarons!

This week our feature business is one that I am extremely excited to be showing off to you all as I have tasted for myself the yummy treats at..........Maple Jane Macarons!!

Honestly from the bottom of my heart you do not want to miss this wonderful and extremely scrummy business full of gorgeous colours and pure delightfulness!!

Maple Jane Macarons is run by the lovely and talented Courtney Stallard who since she was little has had a passion for colour, arts and crafts. This passion followed her while she went travelling and she gathered even more inspiration and is now a qualified Interior Designer.

But Courtney went even further with her passion. Courtney's love for all things bright and colourful attracted her to the new fad in Australia (introduced through Masterchef), Macarons. Courtney just had to try one but found that they were difficult find and realised that if she wanted to try on she would have to make some. Lucky for us Courtney had a friend who was creating mini jams as a wedding bomboniere and this gave Courtney the idea of macarons being a cute wedding gift idea............and from this Maple Jane Macarons was born!!!!

Maple Jane Macarons began with Courtney heading out to local markets across Adelaide and solely selling her handmade macarons. But it didn't take long for the business to grow into the world of party and event styling.

Through Courtney's work with Interior Design and homewares she was able to source a fantastic range of French Apothecary Jars and other sweets styling props to sell online and she has also recently completed a number of Candy Buffets for different events.

Maple Jane Macarons events are absolutely gorgeous and contain lolly buffets with lots of extras like personalised posters, labels, colours and themes with help make your day extra special.

Maple Jane Macarons also hires out equipment for those customers who wish to buy their own sweets and create their own special Candy Buffets.

While I was getting to know a bit about Maple Jane Macarons, Courtney very kindly shared with me some of her favourite things to buy handmade which included:

- Handmade home textiles, such as scatter cushions in interesting fabrics. from “Colour Therapy

· Up-cycled servingware made from vintage plates stacked between teacups to create a 3-tiered cake stand “Four Seeds”.

· Handmade jewellery such as my Pyramid necklace from “Minoux Jewelry” and my macaron brooch from “Foodie Love Jewellery

· Handmade Giraffe Softies, Sock Monkeys and Sock Monsters from “SweetCuddles” for the little ones.

· Finally I can’t go past a home-made Peach Soda from “The Little Van ThatCould” whenever I bump into this cute retro caravan at markets.

(All of those pages can be found on Facebook and if you click on the names through here you can go directly to their pages.)

If you would like to get in touch with Courtney at Maple Jane Macarons you can find her on facebook at:

Miss Charlie Bubbles!

This week I am very pleased to share with you a wonderful page! Miss Charlie Bubbles!

Miss Charlie Bubbles will be joining us for our June 2nd Market which I am soooo excited about as her items are absolutely gorgeous and all made with love!

Miss Charlie Bubbles is run by Emma, who is the proud mummy of her beautiful baby girl, Charlotte Opal (Charlie). Emma has a wonderful family who support her on her adventure of working from home and joining all of us at local markets!
2 years ago the business was first created by Emma's sister who was attending some markets with her amazingly creative jewellery. After Emma gave birth to her daughter she was based at home and was asked by her sister to start up a facebook page that she coudl manage while her sister was working.
After sorting through her stock and organising everything Emma found lots of ribbon and lace. Emma started playing around with some baby gift ideas inspired by her daughter Charlotte and People started to like what she was making and asked for customized headbands and hair clips to match outfits and occasions.

And suddenly Emma became busy making orders for people. Then came the decorated baby hats for the cooler weather and matching baby clothes. But she soon realised that they she didn't have much for the boys which is when she started creating gorgeous tie outfits as well.

Originally the business started as 'Aldinga Jewellery and gifts' but the girls changed the name when they finally decided on one. They named the business after Charlotte who is very happy and bubbly and was nick named bubbles.

At Miss Charlie Bubbles you will find Jewellery (wooden, beaded shell and gemstones) -Hair accessories for ladies and babies and baby gifts. Emma says: "We welcome orders for hair accessories and decorations for clothing. We have recently had orders for mother/daughter sets, so cute

If you would like to see more from the lovely Miss Charlie Bubbles you will find her at our next market on June 2nd 10am - 3pm at the Littlehampton Peace Memorial Hall! But you can also find her on facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/misscharliebubbles

Emma loves to meet new people and see what other handcrafted products are out and about. So head on over to her Facebook page and say hello! because I know she would love to meet you!

Love Little Miss

This week's feature business is brand new to the market scene and I am so excited to be able to introduce them to you all here!!

Love Little Miss had their very first market stall at Once Upon A Market on the 7th April 2012 and we were absolutely delighted to have them there and be their very first market experience!

Love Little Miss is made up of 2 gorgeous sisters,
Leanne and Kerry who between them have 3 little girls and 2 little boys and another baby girl on the way. They are extremely family orientated and love to spend time together which was the main reason that Love Little Miss came about.

Both Leanne and Kerry, without knowing each others plans, decided to look into creating facebook businesses to sell their handmade baby items and hair accessories. While chatting one day they realised that they both had similar ideas and decided to join together and have been working on their joint business ever since.
Love Little Miss was started on Facebook in September 2011. Both Leanne and Kerry's love of fancy clips and girls accessories came from their many years of dancing when they were young girls. After always wearing cute girls accessories during their dancing stage it was easy for them to get started creating and forming their business. And with the help of their little girls they have the perfect models......and their items are so bright and fun that their boys even try to wear them! :P

At Love Little Miss you will find a wide variety of different hair accessories for the princesses in your life. All their hair accessories are handmade with love and attention to detail and include hair clips, headbands and hats.

But that's not all!! You can also find some gorgeous baby items including taggies and decorated baby singlets!! which can make perfect gifts for baby showers!! and the girls also have in their range some super pretty pencils, vintage brooches and so much more.

Now we all love to shop for handmade items and that includes the lovely girls at Love Little Miss :D when I asked them what they love to buy handmade they shared with me some of their favourite items that they have purchased - "Between us we have bought many handmade trees to decorate our girls rooms with, hair items, pettiskirts, baby products, and party decorations/favours (we have done Smurf themed parties and Hoot themed parties this year)."

Well now we all know a little bit more about Love Little Miss I am sure you can't wait to head over and see all the items that they have to offer and get to know them a bit more!!

You will find the Love Little Miss girls at our next Once Upon A Market on June 2nd 2012!!

But to get in touch with them before then you can find them on facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/Lovelittlemiss

Or you can contact them via email at: lovelittlemiss@hotmail.com

Easter Market April 7th 2012

Well our second market was held on the 7th April at the Littlehampton Peace Memorial Hall, and what a day it was!! Everybody arrived bright and early and were all set up for our 10am opening!! and the room quickly filled with customers as they came to see what we had to offer!! and it certainly was something for everyone!!

Hand-Iced cookie Pops
The coffee machine we purchased for the kitchen did its very best to keep up with everybody as they came in for coffee's and hot chocolates!! I must admit the hot chocolate was extremly tasty but my favourite was the Chai Latte!! yum! and a great start to the morning.......Right next to the kitchen the Easter cupcakes and Hand-iced Cookies from Cake Expectations by Aimee were going like hot cakes.....even I couldn't resist the temptation!! just look at those colours!!

There were oohs and aahs all around and they went so fast I missed out on getting some of those cute little burrowing bunny cupcakes!! how cute do they look? I did manage to get my hands on some white choc mud cupcakes and carrot and walnut so I was happy anyway :P
Cake Expectations by Aimee

While everyone was enjoying their morning tea, the children were having a blast joining in on our Easter hunt!! which was only able to happen with the help of some of our amazing stall-holders!! the kids got really excited as they used their clues to hunt out which stalls had the eggs!!

Some of the clues were a bit tricky but all the kids managed to find all the eggs and at the final stall they were given a cute little chicken to take home as well as a bigger chocolate egg!! lucky little munchkins!! and they all had such lovely manners :D

Polkadot Bitz and Pieces Frankie Dolls
But food and easter eggs weren't all you found at the Once Upon A Market. Stalls were filled with goodies for adults, babies, children and even pets!! We had two stalls for pets on the day including PupCakes who provided healthy treats for dogs and we also had Help Save the Furry Ones who have a great stall dedicated to saving cats!! Their donation box was filling up with help from the customers.

We had unique, customised art work from the very talented LiviArt and we had kids items including crocheted beanies, toys, pettiskirts, clothing, wooden items and much more.

The stall-holders all did a fantastic job with their stalls which resulted in a very bright, colourful and fun place to shop!!

At Baby Blue's stall you could find bows galore for all ages!! I even found myself a great bow with my favourite star - Johnny Depp in Cry Baby on it!! what a find that was.....You can truly find some amazing and unique items at Baby Blue!! Great stall for teen girls!

If you couldn't make it to the Easter Market you really did miss out on a truly fun day!! But that is ok because our next market is coming up on Saturday 2nd June and will have a special Winter Theme. So make sure you come on down and join us for another day of fun! and grab all your handmade winter needs!!
